Offshore Services Industry
The Center is conducting research on the offshore services industry, one of the fastest growing sectors in this globalized economy. Companies in search of lower costs and new talent have begun unbundling their corporate activities and are sourcing them from abroad. The information technology revolution has expedited the growth of this industry facilitating the trade of these service activities.
The emergence of the dynamic offshore services industry has marked an important milestone in the world economy. Millions of service jobs have shifted from developed countries to emerging economies providing an important opportunity for developing nations to drive growth and improve social and economic conditions.
The Center has analyzed the industry using the Global Value Chain framework through collaborations with different institutions such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, The Inter-American Development Bank, The World Bank and the Chilean Agency for Economic Development (CORFO).

This report examines the demand for engineering services in the Americas by analyzing the supply and quality and cost of engineers in five key countries: Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and the United States.
